Editing Timed Auctions

Setting and Editing Timed Auction Dates

Estimated reading: 10 minutes

This guide covers how to set and update your Timed Auction Dates, including:

  • Auction Start Date and Time
  • Auction End Date and Time
  • Auction Viewing (Inspection) Start and End Dates
  • Auction Clearance (Collection) Start and End Dates

This guide will also detail how updates to the Auction End Date affect converted Lots and Listings in that Timed Auction.

Timed Auction – Bidding Start and End overview

Before we begin, we’ll briefly go over what the Auction Start Date and Auction End Date mean and how they affect when Bidding begins and ends on your Timed Auction.

Auction Starts * – This is the label of the option in the Dashboard’s Create New Timed Auction and Edit Auction Details menus for setting the start date and time of your Timed Auction.

Auction Starts sets and follows several rules, including:

  1. The Bidding and Buying Starting Point – The Auction Start Date and Time sets when Bidding and Buying will open for your Timed Auction’s Lots and Listings.
  2. Auction Visibility  Your Timed Auction can be made publicly visible on your Portal at any time before the Auction Starts date and time, as long as the Timed Auction is in Live status and at least one Lot or one Listing is also in Live status.
  3. Fully Editable (including accidental Time Travel) – The Auction Starts options for your Timed Auction can be edited at any point via the Edit Auction Details menu, and the Date and Time options can be brought forward to a prior date*, today’s date or set at a later date.

*Opening your Auction Early – If you do set your Timed Auction’s Start Date to a date prior to today, your Auction will immediately open for bidding and buying as soon as both the Auction and Items within it are Approved to Live status.

Auction Ends * – This the label of the option in the Dashboard’s Create New Timed Auction and Edit Auction Details menus for setting the end date and time of your Timed Auction.

Auction Ends sets and follows several rules, including:

  1. The Bidding and Buying Closing Point – The Auction End Date and Time sets when your Lots and Listings will begin to close.
  2. Bidding Extension – The Auction End Time is set universally across all Lots and Listings in that Auction, but if bidding activity continues on a Lot in it’s final minutes, Bidding Extension will keep that Lot open until bidding activity ceases. The duration of the Bidding Extension is set by you and can be edited via the General Settings tab of the Edit Auction Details menu. Lots and Listings close independently of each other, so whilst Lot 1 may be in Bidding Extension (or Overtime Bidding as it’s labelled on your Portal), Lot 2 will close at it’s set End Time if it doesn’t receive any last-minute bids.
  3. Stagger End Times – The Auction End Time is set universally across all Lots and Listings, but if you enable Stagger End Times, the Auction End Time will act as a base whilst the Lot and Listing End Times will change based on your Stagger End Times settings.
  4. Fully Editable (but not in a vacuum) – The Auction Ends options for your Timed Auction can be edited at any point via the Edit Auction Details menu, but, any changes will need to be manually applied to that Auction’s Lots and Listings as well. Lots and Listings will retain their original End Date and Time until you pull your entire Item List (or just Lot 1 if you are using Stagger End Times) into Bulk Edit and clear their existing End Date and Time via Group Edit.

Updating Timed Auction Dates

May contain trace amounts of Time Travel

If you have already created your Timed Auction, you have the option to update both the Auction Starts and Auction Ends dates at any point, but with certain caveats (as detailed earlier in this guide). We’ll go over updating your Auction Starts date and time first.

Updating the Auction Starts Date and Time – Timed Auctions

Step 1 – Navigate to the View Auctions page and open the Edit Auction Details menu

To begin, open up the Webtron Dashboard and navigate to the Auctions & Items > View Auctions page:

From there, look to the right-hand side of the Auctions table, under the Actions column click on the blue Edit button for your Timed Auction:

Auction Status Filters – Please note, if your Auction doesn’t appear inside the Auctions table, double-check your active filters by clicking on the yellow Modify Filter button at the top-left of the View Auctions menu. If you have not Approved your Auction yet, tick the PREVIEW filter and click Apply. After clicking Apply, your Auction should now appear inside the Auctions table.

Step 2 – Open the Dates tab and edit your Auction Starts details

After clicking the blue Edit button, you’ll land inside the Edit Auction Details menu with the General Settings tab open. Look to the top of the Edit Auction Details menu for a series of blue tabs, click on the third tab from the left labelled Dates:

The Auction Starts section appears second from the top, divided into two distinct options; the Date field (Auction Starts Date) and the Time dropdowns (Auction Starts Time):

Step 2A – Updating the Auction Starts Date

If you would like to change the Auction Starts Date, click on the Date field to open the Calendar panel, then select a date by clicking on any of the blue Date buttons inside the Calendar panel (today’s date is marked out in yellow):

Time Travel Approved – Your Timed Auction’s Start Date can be set as a date that has already passed or today’s date. This may come in handy if you need to open your Auction early or set a retroactive start date. Otherwise we recommend setting the Auction Start Date to a future date.

(Optional) The Calendar panel will show the current month, but you can use the white left and right arrows at the top-left and top-right of the panel to switch months:

(Optional) You can also fill in the Date manually by backspacing (Deleting) the current date in the Date field, then typing your new Date in using the YYYY-MM-DD format (e.g. 2025-08-29 = August 29th 2025):

Step 2B – Updating the Auction Starts Time

If you would like to change the Auction Starts Time, click on either the H (Hour) or M (Minute) dropdowns to show the options for each:

The Hour dropdown will display a full list of 24-hour time, starting with 00 (Midnight) and ending with 23 (11pm). Click on any of the Hour options to set a new Auction Starts Time – Hour:

The Minute dropdown will display a list of minute options in 5-minute increments, starting with 00 (on the hour) and ending with 55 (-5 minutes until the end of the hour). Click on any of the Minute options to set a new Auction Starts Time – Minute:

Step 3 – Save your changes

Once you have edited your Auction Starts Date and Time, click the green Save Auction button at the top-left of the Edit Auction Details menu to apply your changes:

You’ll be returned to the View Auctions page and see a yellow “Auction Saved Successfully” message across the top of your screen:

Your Auction Starts changes have now been applied.

If you would like to change the Auction Ends Date, click on the Date field to open the Calendar panel, then select a date by clicking on any of the blue Date buttons inside the Calendar panel (today’s date is marked out in yellow):

Time Travel Not Approved – Your Timed Auction’s End Date cannot be set as a date that has already passed. If set to today’s date, the End Time must be a later time than your current time. Be mindful of your Viewing and Clearance Dates as well, the Viewing Ends Date and Time must be set to before the Auction Ends Date and Time, and the Clearance Starts Date and Time must be set to after the Auction Ends Date and Time.
