Signing up for a Mailchimp account is very quick and simple, but we’re starting off this guide talking about the different Plans available because it’s important to decide which one you require before you create an account, as alternative services like MailerLite may offer you a better price when it comes to the size of your Contacts list.
If you’re just starting out with Email Marketing and you’re currently building up your Audience list, Mailchimp’s Free tier is an excellent starting point, you won’t have to pay a cent and you can:
Import up to 500 Contacts in your Audience
Send up to 1000 Email Campaigns per month*
Use the New Builder to construct Campaigns
Create Campaigns from simple Templates
Create Simple Forms and Landing Pages
*But what do they mean by “Send up to 1000 Email Campaigns per month”? We understand the wording might be a bit confusing, but essentially Mailchimp counts each single Email sent out to an Audience member’s Email Address as being a Campaign, meaning you can only send out 1000 Individual Emails from Mailchimp per month on the Free plan.
For an Audience less than 500 Contacts, this is still a large amount of marketing material and potential reach, but if you already have a mailing list greater than 500 Contacts, the Essentials plan enables you to:
Import up to 500 Contacts in your Audience, with your Monthly or Annual cost scaling if your audience grows beyond the first 500.
Create multiple Audiences
Send Campaigns 10X that of your Audience size (For example, if you have an Audience of 1000 Contacts, you can send up 10,000 Individual Emails.)
Use the New Builder to construct Campaigns
Create Campaigns from simple Templates
Create Simple Forms and Landing Pages
Schedule your Email Campaigns to send on a certain Date and at a specific Time.
Enable Access to your Account for up to 3 people
We recommend you check Mailchimp’s Pricing page, as the Essentials plan starts off at $13 USD/mo for 500 contacts, but then scales in cost based on your Audience size.
Signing up for a Mailchimp Account
Whilst it may cost you to send out Campaigns with Mailchimp, the good news is it’s completely free to start up an account.
To begin, click the button below to open the Mailchimp website in a new tab:
Once the Home page loads, click the yellow Sign Up button at the centre of your screen.
To skip ahead and create an account on the Free plan, click the underlined Free text underneath where it says “Try our Standard Plan today!”, then click the yellow Sign Up Free button on the right-hand side of your screen.
Mailchimp will now ask for your Business Email (this can be a @gmail.com or @outlook.com email address, but we do recommend creating a Custom Domain Email using your Website Domain at some point), and for you to set a Username and Password. Like with the Webtron Portal, your Username is an alternate login for your Mailchimp account, but it is also permanent and cannot be changed later on.
