Smartphone Camera Tips

Estimated reading: 2 minutes

Welcome to the Smartphone Camera Tips guide. In this guide, we’ll be detailing some recommended apps and settings when it comes to taking photos with your Smartphone.

Now of course, there are some sizeable differences between iPhone and Android devices, and you might find that some of the recommendations and tips aren’t supported by your device. We’ll do our best to keep this guide up-to-date with the latest options for both iOS and Android users, but if we do miss anything feel free to email us at support@webtronoa.com.

This guide will be covering using your Smartphone’s built-in camera(s), but if you’re curious about how you can link and transfer photos from a modern DSLR to your Smartphone, check out our Transferring DSLR Photos to your Smartphone guide here.

Android – Samsung Galaxy Tips and Recommendations

iOS – iPhone Tips and Recommendations

Recommended Camera App – Camera

Whilst the App Store boasts some handy and powerful third-party Camera apps like Halide and ProCamera, we (Alec) have found that, whilst they offer some finer tuning options like ISO and f-stop, the default Camera app is more than enough.

If you find that the iPhone’s autofocus or auto-exposure settings are proving annoying (especially for close-up shots), we recommend Halide.

Recommended Photo Editor and Compressor – Affinity Photo 2

Whilst the Photos app on iOS offers some quick and easy editing tools (Cropping, Filters, Rotating etc.), if you need to make more in-depth or uniform edits to your photos, we heartily recommend Affinity Photo 2.

On the surface, Affinity Photo 2 bears a striking resemblance to Adobe Photoshop, but with two key differences:

  1. It runs a lot smoother
  2. It’s a one-time purchase (with a generous 6-month free trial)

We detail Affinity Photo 2’s features a bit more in our Photo Editing Tips and Recommendations guide, but if you’d like to know more about Affinity, click here to open their website.
