This guide covers our recommended method for deploying your Client’s new Portal code if you’re using the WordPress CMS.
Conflicting Scripts and Styles Note – As we are deploying your Portal via a HTML Script, we heavily recommend stripping back the number of blocks and plugins on the same page as your code to the absolute minimum. If possible, we heavily recommend programming an exception in your site’s Theme to minimise the number of background plugins or scripts running on the Portal Page.
Pages and the Custom HTML Block
We use a simple HTML Script to load the Portal on any given page, and thanks to WordPress’ Custom HTML block, deploying the code on a WordPress website is incredibly easy.
This guide is written for those with minimal to no experience with WordPress, so if you haven’t used WordPress that much, don’t worry, we’ll be running through every step from the WordPress Dashboard home page.
Classic Editor Notice – This guide covers how to add the Portal Code via WordPress’ Block Editor (Gutenberg). Please ensure your WordPress Website is using WordPress version 6.7 or newer. If you are using the Classic Editor plugin, please disable it temporarily and use the Block Editor to deploy your Portal Code.
Step 1 – Open your WordPress Dashboard and Create a new Page
Once you’ve logged into your WordPress Dashboard, look to the left-hand side of your screen for the WordPress Sidebar, float your cursor over the Pages option and click Add New Page:
This will open up WordPress New Page menu, which contains the Block Editor. Give your new page a title, we recommend something short and simple like “Online Auctions” or just “Auctions“, it’s up to you:
Step 2 – Adding the Custom HTML Block to the page
Once you’ve given your page a title, left-click on the grey “Type / to choose a block” and then press the forward slash “/” key on your keyboard:
A small pop-up menu will appear offering some default blocks such as; Heading, Paragraph, Image etc. Start typing out the word “Custom” until you see an option appear labelled “Custom HTML“. Left-click on the Custom HTML option when it appears:
WordPress will then insert the Custom HTML block on your page, and you’ll see a small black-bordered box with the words “Write HTML...” inside it.
Step 3 – Pasting your Portal Code inside the Custom HTML
Once you’ve added the Custom HTML block, open up the email we sent to you containing your Portal Code. It will most likely have come from Alec (a.young@webtronoa.com) and will look like this:
Hold left-click and highlight each line, then right-click and click Copy or press CTRL and C on your keyboard, then return to the WordPress tab, left-click where it says “Write HTML…”, then right-click and click Paste or press CTRL and V on your keyboard:
Your Portal code is now safely nested in the Custom HTML block and you’re ready to preview your Portal page. To do so, look to the top-right of the WordPress Page Editor, underneath the blue Publish button you’ll find two options labelled Page and Block:
Left-click the Page option, and this will expose a further list of options:
Status
Publish
Slug
Author
Template
Parent
Look to the right of the Status option, it should still say Draft in blue text. Click Draft, a small panel will appear containing some checkboxes, tick Published (5th option from the top), but then also tick Password protected beneath that and fill in a Password for your new page:
After that click the blue Publish button at the top-right of your screen, a small Confirmation message will appear at the bottom-left of your screen once WordPress has finished publishing your page:
Temporarily Hidden but Accessible – We recommend ticking Password protected, as this will allow your team and ours (Webtron) access to the page but keep it inaccessible to your Bidders until you’re ready to go live with your first auction. To ensure your Bidder’s are aware of and compliant with your Ts and Cs, keep your Portal hidden until we (Webtron) confirm that both your Terms and Conditions and Category Tree have been added to your Portal.
Step 4 – Previewing your Portal page
To preview your new Portal page, click the small X to dismiss the Page Published message, then click the black box with an arrow pointing out of it to open your Portal page in a new Tab.
You’ll need to fill in the password you set earlier, once you’ve filled it in click the “Enter” button or press Enter/Return on your keyboard to open the page:
Your browser’s Password Manager will offer to save the page password for you, we recommend doing so. Your page will appear blank for a moment whilst the Portal loads, but you should see your Portal appear after a few seconds with the First Time Bidder Guide at the top:
That’s it, your Portal code is now deployed.
Please send a link to the page and the page password to support@webtronoa.com and we’ll begin our Portal Certification checklist and tests.
Step 5 (Optional, but recommended) – Creating an Account
If you’d like to get a head start before your first training session with us, click the Create Account button on your Portal and fill in the Create your Account form with your details:
Once you’ve created your account, let us know by emailing us at support@webtronoa.com and we’ll sort out your Admin Access to the Webtron Dashboard ahead of your first training session with us.
