This guide gives a broad overview of the Current Auctions page on your Portal; it’s purpose, special features and recommendations.
Current Auctions – Your Portal’s Home page
The Current Auctions page on your Portal is ostensibly your Portal’s Home page. When Bidders access the page your Portal code has been placed on, the Current Auctions page is loaded by default and will display a list of your Auctions in Live status:
Think of the Current Auctions page as the anchor for your Portal, whenever Bidders get stuck or aren’t sure how to get to a certain page or menu in your Portal, we recommend they start over from the Current Auctions page. From the Current Auctions page, every other page and menu on your Portal can be reached by a single click or tap (with the exception of the Item Details page for each Item in an Auction)
What appears on the Current Auctions page
Once your Auctions (and at least one Item) are in Live status, they’ll be listed on your Current Auctions page. The Auction Title, Description and Start/End Date will be displayed underneath the Auction Preview Photos carousel:
The Current Auctions page uses a Closing Date Order, so the list of Auctions is ordered based on how close their End Date is (Timed Auctions) and how close the Auction Starts date is (Webcast Auctions – Live Bidding phase), or put simply, whichever Auctions are closing soonest will appear at the top of the list.
Current Auctions – Special Features and Recommendations
On the surface, the Current Auctions page on your Portal follows are very rigid structure, but as Dashboard Admins you do have more control over it than you might think.
Featuring Auctions – Overriding the Auction List order
Whilst the Current Auctions page follows a Closing Date Order, you can override this order by Featuring Auctions. Featured Auctions will always appear at the top of the Current Auctions page and sport a special orange “Featured” badge:
What happens if I feature multiple Auctions? Good question, if you have multiple Featured Auctions, they will use the Closing Date Order, whichever Featured Auction is closing soonest will appear at the top of the Current Auctions page:
To Feature an Auction, open the Webtron Dashboard and navigate to the Auctions & Items > View Auctions page:
Then under the Title column of the Auctions table, left-click on the small Star icon next to the blue Auction Title link:
The Star will turn red and you’ll see a yellow “Auction ‘[Auction Title]’ will now be flagged as a featured auction on the home page” at the top of your screen:
To stop featuring an Auction, simply left-click on the red star to remove the Featured badge from that Auction.
Featuring Items – Overriding the Auction Preview Photos carousel
Each Auction listed on the Current Auctions page of your Portal will display a photo carousel of 12 photos (and a logo if added in the Edit Auction Details > Logo tab).
By default, the 12 photos that appear in the carousel will be the primary photo of Lots 1-12 (the first 12 Items in your Auction) but you can override this and display the lead photo of specific Items by Featuring them.
Featuring Items is identical to featuring an Auction, simply navigate to the Auctions & Items > View Auctions page, then inside the Auctions table (under the Items column), click the # items link to open the Item List for that Auction:
Once your Item List finishes loading, look to the left-hand edge of the Item List table, at the start of each Item Title you’ll find a small grey Star. Click on the Star for each Item you’d like to mark as Featured:
The Star will turn red and you’ll see a yellow “Images from Item [Item Ref. ID] are now featured on the home page” confirmation message at the top of your screen each time you Feature an Item.
Featured Items Cap – Since there are 12 slots in each Current Auctions carousel, the maximum number of Items you can feature is 12.
FAQ – Current Auctions page
Q: My new Auction isn’t showing up on the Current Auctions page, why? A: Double-check both your Auction and at least 1 Item are both in Live status. If your Auction is Live but you’ve used Make Visible action on a Lot in Preview status, the Auction will not appear on your Portal. You may also need to do a quick refresh (CTRL and R for Windows, Command and R on macOS). If your Auction still doesn’t appear, get in touch with us at support@webtronoa.com.
Q: Does the Marketplace appear on the Current Auctions page? A: Yes, if you have any Marketplace Items in Live status, the Marketplace appears as a tab (Auctions, Marketplace) above the Auctions list.
Q: How can Bidders tell an Auction is open for bidding? A: The Current Auctions page on your Portal will display a special, flashing green “Open” badge on Timed Auctions that are open for Bidding, and Webcast Auctions that are in the Live Bidding phase.
Q: Can I list an Auction early on the Current Auctions page? A: Yes, we call this the Lot 0 Method. Click the link below for our guide on Creating a new Auction and listing it early with a Lot 0:
Q: Do Bidders need to be logged in to see the Current Auctions page? A: No, anyone can access your Portal’s Current Auction page. Unless the page your Portal code is deployed on is Password Protected, any website visitors can see the Current Auctions page on your Portal.
Q: Instead of using the Current Auctions page, can I link directly into an Auction or the Create Account form? A: Yes, but we don’t recommend it. Each Auction will use it’s own unique link, and the Create Account form also shares it’s link with the My Account page, but directly linking to either page would require some careful and considered Navigation Menu management through your Website’s CMS/Backend.
